If you are lucky enough to reach the top of the waiting list and be offered a plot, it will either be on the upper or lower field and will be a size of approximately 100-135 square metres. This is what traditionally is known as a half plot but it is a good size to get started.
Having taken on a plot you will be entitled to go back onto the waiting list for another plot but you must wait for a further two years of satisfactory tenancy before you can take on the extra plot. Existing tenants of more than two years standing can go on the waiting list at any time but given the current demand for plots a maximum of two plots per person/couple has been set. Plots are offered to those on the waiting list in strictly date order.
The current rent (2011) is £31.00 due in November for the following calendar year. There are discounts if the plot is taken on later in the year. Plots let between May and August would be at half rent and those let after August would be free for the first year.
Tenants will be charged a £15 returnable deposit for a gate key. For security reasons these cannot be copied and replacement or additional keys can be obtained on payment of a deposit from the Secretary or the Treasurer.
The Constitution provides that only one person can be named on a tenancy agreement. If more than one person is working a plot the others are encouraged to become associate members at a cost of £5. They will become members of the NSALG and will be eligible to serve on the Association Committee. This is set out in detail in the Constitution. An application form for Associate Membership is available to download on the Association Documents page of this website
